We have seen eggs with an inner polarity: the yolk and the white. We often forget that an egg has three parts, it is a sacred trinity! The shell is the third. It completes the picture – like the often overlooked circle around the Yin Yang symbol, showing the unity of the two energies.
If you are not a strict vegan and do eat eggs, you have probably never considered eating the shell. And yes, it requires a bit of preparation – but it’s worth it.
Advantages of Eggshells
Eggshells are rich in calcium. And not just any calcium, it is natural and easily absorbed by the body. The shells also contain other helpful minerals such as magnesium and potassium. Good for bones, teeth, and overall health.
Many people buy expensive supplements for this. But we can get it for free – from what we usually throw away.
Acid-Base Balance
The egg yolk and egg white contain proteins that form acids in the body. The shell, on the other hand, provides alkaline minerals. If we only eat the contents of the egg and leave out the shell, this can lead to hyperacidity. The body then has to use bases from its own reserves, such as bones or teeth, to balance out the acids.
However, by eating the whole egg with the shell, we support the natural balance. Nature has designed it perfectly: Everything in the egg fits together.
How to Prepare Eggshells Safely
- Gather some shells – preferably from organic eggs.
- Boil for 15 minutes – this will sterilise them.
- Dry in the oven for about 25 minutes – at 100–120°C. This makes them crisp and ready to grind.
- Grind into powder – using a coffee grinder or strong smoothie mixer.
- Mix with apple cider vinegar – add enough to cover the powder. Store it in a glass jar in the fridge for 2–3 days. The vinegar helps break down the calcium and makes it easier to absorb.
- Take one spoonful a day – mix it in water or a smoothie.
This may sound unusual at first. But sometimes the things we overlook hold the greatest value. The eggshell is more than just waste – it is a gift we’ve ignored.
Give it a try. Your body may thank you.
